While gospel thunders are abroad, And “Church and State” is all the word; When drum and trumpet, orthodox, Are sounder loud to call their flocks; When money, once “the root of evil,” Is hoarded up to fight the d---l; While Rigdon, dipt in many waters, Preaches Gold Bible to the loafers; The heart grows sad and splenetic, And man enacts the “monkey sick.”
